cool stuff man!!
Getting a Ryedale sorter is on my wish list. Just moved up a notch or two after your thread. Thanks for sharing. :applause_ |
Re: Got a Ryedale apprentice today
I'm at 6.5 tons of hoarded copper....way better than holding FRN....and still holding cash in a worst case situation. I've backed off a notch this past 6 months....but getting back into it this winter.....it is a winter sport for me...

don't forget to replace the zinc cent with a bronze to sort out those as well. The bronze cents are 1942 and earlier. They are worth more numismatically speaking. For each box of cents ($25) I get about 8 bronze cents.

Re: Got a Ryedale apprentice today
Last time I looked there wasn't 1/10 cents worth of copper in a pre-82 penny, and less than 2-cents worth of metal in a nickel.
Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I believe it's gonna be one heck of a long time (if ever) before commodity prices including copper, are going to get back up to levels that will make it economically feasible to melt these coins. The only thing that will bring base metal prices up is demand and demand requires consumption and this amount of consumption can only exist in an exceedingly prosperous economy. IMO the post WWII to 2001 economy that was enjoyed in the U.S. and other parts of the world is gone; blown away by the natural laws of fiat currency. |
Re: Got a Ryedale apprentice today
I've done a fair bit of sorting with my Ryedale, no where near as much as Rupric of course, and I've stopped completely since August or so.
I just don't have the cash flow to justify hoarding copper pennies at this point, especially since the value of the copper has fallen below 1 cent. I'm more interested in food preps now anyway. |

Just wait a little bit...we will see copper back up at $2 - $3/lb. At $1.50/lb copper, the penny has a penny worth of copper. At the current metal prices...we are experiencing supply destruction....I think by the end of 2009 we will see all commodities much higher...perhaps even 2X. I'm in the hyperinflation camp....and the commodies will see this first. I still think we will see the day when a single copper penny will bring a FRN dime.....and I do not think we will have to wait more than 5 years for this to happen. My plan is to pay off fixed interest rate 2008 debt with future inflated FRN's....and if my "copper penny worth a dime" plan works out...it will serve this purpose. I think it is a good idea to hold cash....and this is the only way for me to do this in a protected manner. I also enjoy the numis searching. Lastly, it gives me a way to diversify away from silver and gold. I also have several tons of smelted lead ingots....many have been cast into bullets. I'm a large scale reloaded. In my mind....all metal = real money. The world runs on metals and energy...has for 5000 years and will continue to do so forever. My goal is still 10 tons in copper coins...65% of the way there. |

There are still plenty of buyers at 1.3-1.6 cents each! Including Apmex.... Plus now is the time to start hoarding...before prices shoot through the roof and everyone does it! |
